Salisbury’s very own Promats Athletics may be in the business of stadium field wall padding year-round, but it’s only once a year they get to show off their product at one of the nation’s most popular sporting events.
For the second time since 2014, Promats Athletics custom stadium wall padding will provide on-field protection to players at the Super Bowl. This year’s game at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX is scheduled for February 5.
“Our connection to the Super Bowl is a source of pride for our employees,” said Wayne Oliver, President of Promats Athletics. “It’s the best possible example of how our employees have put our products on the map.”
According to Oliver, Promats was established nearly 30 years ago and is a leader in athletic padding and netting systems for all levels of play. The company has been awarded two patents for advances in wrinkle-resistant technology and integrated drainage for outdoor wall pads. Additionally, Promats developed the first-ever dual density padding used at the recent Pro Bowl at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fl. This innovation provides a more comfortable initial impact with the padding, which is then absorbed into a higher density foam for comfort and exceptional safety.
More recently, the Promats began working with Net Systems (a trawl netting manufacturer in Bainbridge Island, WA) to develop low profile “UltraCross” backstop netting systems that have been popular with MLB organizations due to the product’s “see-through visibility.”
Matt Cross, General Manager at Promats Athletics, explained that NRG Stadium, home of Super Bowl LI (and the Houston Texans during the regular season), is one of the busiest multi-purpose venues in the nation hosting NFL’s Houston Texans, NCAA’s Texas Bowl, as well as high school football. Promats manufactured and coordinated the installation of about 150 sideline and end zone pads for the venue.
“Our team takes the protection of athletes seriously,” explained Cross. “That’s why we use high quality materials that meet rigorous impact standards. Nobody needs to get hurt playing the game they love.” According to Cross, Promats’ sister company, Sportsfield Specialties in Delhi, NY, also manufactured the goal posts used at NRG stadium.
“We put a lot of energy into every product, to make sure they not only function, but also look good,” said Cross, “The fact that our pads will be televised to millions of viewers says we’re all doing our part and it makes us real proud.”
